The find command is an immensely powerful command and is very simple.

It finds what you want and is recursive so find / will list every file on the OS.

NOTE: Find only can list files in directories you can access, you cannot list other users files.

The true power of this command though comes from the parameters you can provide it.

You can use

find dir -user -list every file owned by a specific user.

find dir -group -list every file owned by a specific group.

-type command is used to find certain types example

-type d finds directories and -type f finds files

The -name flag is used to specify a name or pattern to look for.

You can type the whole name, or use wildcards to specify only part(s) of the name. If you use wildcards, you need to enclose your pattern in quotes, otherwise the command won't work as intended.

It is useful to know that you can also use the -iname flag; same as -name, but case insensitive.

-user specifies owner of the file to find
